I was born in a small town in Southern Oklahoma and spent 18 summers at The Lake 15 minutes from my childhood home. During those 18 years I also learned what it means to love God and family and Dr. Pepper and brownie batter. Licked directly from a wooden spoon.
I had fake nails and soaked them off. Several times. I prayed around the flag pole at my school and I danced competitively. I was captain of the pom squad. But before that, I got into an argument with our coach and school administration because I refused to perform to a country song called Trashy Women.
I loved red lipstick. And then deep maroon. And back and forth.
I have three best friends from childhood. They are still three of my best friends. We communicate daily. Literally. I hug them as often as I can, which isn’t often enough.
After graduating college with a degree in biochemistry, I married a boy with whom I attended high school. Then we moved to the east coast, where I attended law school. I documented impressive billable hours in Dallas and San Diego before we made our decision to move back to Oklahoma, to our college town. Now I have a blast practicing law in higher education. I love college campuses, and working on one has been a dream come true. Books and old buildings and students and everything.
That boy and I were not high school sweethearts. There are three munchkins who would never have been born had we been high school sweethearts. Because we never would have married. But we weren’t. And we did. So they are. Three of them. EB, age 6; Main Man, age 3; and Little Belle, age 1. They make my world sizzle.
I like being a mother. I like being an attorney. I love being a wife. I like being a friend and a hostess. I like helping people solve all kinds of problems.
I insist on being challenged, and striking the right balance among all the things I like is a daily challenge that I almost never get exactly right. In fact, balance is my golf. In the sense that (1) I am often my own worst enemy; (2) I am often my own worst critic; (3) there is no way to improve except to invest a lot of time working on it.
I have lots of fun here.
